Character Profile: Alison Hendrix, Female Walter White and yet not

Out of all of the clones, my opinion on Alison Hendrix has changed the most. I originally found her kinda useless to the group that at best served as a replacement for Beth in the original Clone Club and at worst, just a character to paste into scenarios that wouldn't fit any other clone for the lolz. Then as I rewatched it and looked more deeply at her arc. In a way Orphan Black is Alison's story, not Sarah's given that Sarah's arc while subtle is way less of a change than what Alison becomes. Alison is also way more broad in humorous scenarios than the other comic relief character in Helena. While Helena is comedic since she's so out there, emotionally stunted and abused she can't deal with normal things normally, Alison is a far more relatable humor I've seen fans openly say "I know a few Alisons in my neighborhood." and have a jovial laugh immediately afterwards. Since Alison is my favorite clone and to me has the best arc in the series. This p...

Character Profile: Cosima Niehaus, Unicorn with Stockholm Syndrome

Labeling Cosima for this post was hard. Not because she's a badly written character but because there's so many ways to interpret her that it's hard to say where I stand with her. Cosima was my favorite clone in the beginning of the series however rewatching it and as her arc stagnated I slowly lost interest in her. Hence why it was hard for me to pin down a label fitting for her. She's been both my favorite and least favorite clone in the series. Cosima is autistic as the series bible says and was the first clone that I found out was. This didn't surprise me given that in college I met literally a man that was basically male Cosima, I'll call him Warren. Warren was a guy who was prone to talking with his hands, socially apt compared to the stereotype of autistic people (he could be annoying but not insufferable), very geeky and liked having some attention threw his way. The one thing that's different from Cosima and Warren is that Warren was a devout Chri...

Character Profile: Helena, Rei Ayanami with an actual personality

Ok first off this goes for all my posts but I'm going to spoil a lot of Orphan Black and it's very much a serial so you've been warned. Leave now and don't blame me if you find out something before it's revealed in the show. Helena was my favorite character. I don't hate her but my love for her has diminished after my second rewatch. Helena is as the title suggests Rei Ayanami from Evangelion but with an actual character. Both are pale skinned and haired, both were trained as child soldier and were in a way groomed to be seen as ascending to their rightful place on the food chain, they're also clearly off putting to those around them. I'm no fan of Evangelion but the parallels between the two weren't what soured me of Helena. What soured me to her is while she is objectively an interesting character in the series and serves as a multiple very important purpose (foil for Sarah, the muscle of the group, comic relief, slasher-like villainess, ect). ...

First Post and what to expect from this blog

I am a storyteller, or at least a man who has storytelling as their main lens or filter. I also am a character focused man when it comes to my stories. Plot is pointless if I don't care for your characters is my motto. I'll basically be putting up my own thoughts on fictional characters in pop culture. Some niche, some not. I wanted to do this on YouTube but YouTube keeps altering the way it does video uploads and it's not convenient for a 31 year old boomer like myself. I'll be starting with my favorite show Orphan Black as 1. It's my favorite show 2. It's the one show that I can remember that made me really look back and alter how I liked the characters significantly (usually I still like character just slightly more or less) and 3. I'm not the target demographic for the show so I have a very different worldview of it and can see different meanings than most people. After I finish Orphan Black, I'll do these things periodically on whichever character...
